Wupperthal is a small town in the Cederberg mountains in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It was founded in 1830 by two German missionaries of the Rhenish Missionary Society.

The factory continued to grow and in 1921 the Reverend Willy Strassberger took over the business from his father in law Gustav Smolke.
In 1954 the whole operation moved to Clanwilliam and continues to this day making handmade Strassberger "Veldskoen" making it the oldest shoe making company in South Africa
